This is a little FAQ to answer some questions you may have:
Nope, we share a similar name but we are not created by the same people.
Both OSeS have a Windows 9x style (we target Windows 98-2k) but are not clones from one another, as the code is completely different.
I originally saw the Ubuntu online tour in around 2016 and that got me somewhat interested in the concept of a Web OS. Being a complete noob at the time, I had no idea how to make it happen. In 2017, I revisited the idea of a Web OS and saw Windows 93 v1. I was really impressed by it and thought to create my own Web OS themed around Windows XP. I had created a prototype but gave up pretty quickly, the XP style was just too hard to recreate in CSS for my skill level at the time. In 2019 it finally happened. A friend of mine and myself came up with the idea to try again during school hours, and we settled with a 9x theme since it was much easier to replicate in CSS.
No, but we might plan on it. Don't count on this though, and definitely don't bother us about it since we get this question a lot.
No CommentWindows 96 is a Web OS designed to push your browser to its limits. Our goal is to have a fully functioning operating system as a website. It's getting there, but its been 2 years of excruciating work and we're still not done :)
Some parts of the OS are haha funny but we have a serious goal I guess?
