No Commentevidence and say it somewhat points us in the right direction as pressure was high as he had many more fans and eyes on him than he never had expected. After this Elliott began to become socially withdrew and everyone could tell he was affected by the constant touring and appeared to be disappointed or bored in more and more interviews. During the recording of XO, Elliott tried to k1ll himself several times, when questioned about his suicide attempt, he told an interviewer, "Yeah, I jumped off a cliff, but let's talk about something else." In 1999 Elliott would relocate from Brookland to Los Angles and only get worse. When Elliott got to Los Angles he would begin working on his final studio record, Figure 8 and by the time of the tour people had begun to notice Smith was experimenting with hard drugs, stopped eating, and became extremely paranoid and an inconsistent sleeping schedule, staying up for days at a time due to this Elliott spent less time in the studio. Elliott tried several times to get clean and eventually did for the most part, around his 34th birthday he began to be getting better and spending more time in the studio and doing shows again. In his last show he doesn't sound as good as he used to before he started using drugs, this could very much be because of the drug use and the toll it was taking on his body, or he could just have a sore throat but it's something to question. Unfortunately, he wasn't as healthy as he looked as looked, as just before lunchtime on Tuesday, October 21, Smith argued with his girlfriend, fellow musician Jennifer Chiba, at their home in Silverlake, Los Angeles. As the row got worse, Smith threatened to commit suicide. Like most of Smith's close friends, Chiba was used to him making melodramatic threats about ending his life. After all, this was a man who, when he decided to relocate from Portland to Brooklyn in the late 1990s, bade farewell to his Oregon friends by informing them that it was likely he would never see them again because he was "probably going to kill himself". Chiba ignored him and locked herself in the bathroom. She then heard a scream. Returning to the living room, she found Smith standing with his back to her. When he turned around, she saw a kitchen knife sticking out of his chest. Smith had stabbed himself in the heart. Despite emergency surgery, he was pronounced dead 20 minutes after arriving at the hospital.

btw the song on my page is my favorite song by him :) biggest lie
No CommentIt's noted that after his tour for the Either/Or album some friends staged an intervention for Elliott about his heavy drinking after he relocated from Portland to Brookland but his next album XO was primarily recorded in Los Angles. His next album XO-1998 features more cherry songs such as "Sweet Adeline" "Waltz #2" and my personal favorite "Baby Britain" although the lyrics don't match the more upbeat tone and fast beat the song carries like putting white paint over a painting of a massacre, you won't notice at first but slowly the white paint will peel and chip and you'll see through the facade. You see this metaphor in Baby Britain, I'd listened to it for a long time enjoying the cheery tune, the drums, and the piano giving a nice response along with Eliiots voice going from deep and raspy and almost talk-singing to a higher-pitched singing and sounding like it was a fun song and Elliott was certainly having fun but there's always a shadow, a face underneath the mask, the lyrics say "Floating over a sea of vodka
Separated from the rest" which sound much like Between the Bars when he says "Drink up one more time, and I'll make you mine Keep you apart, deep in my heart Separate from the rest, where I like you the best" we get conformation in an interview ( there's little information about the interview but I'll link it) in the interview a female out of frame says "Would you say it's more personal than say like an iron maiden song?" (right before this they cut and played Angles a song of Elliott's from album Either/Or so I'm assuming it's that song or a song from that album) and Smith responds with "Um I don't know...I mean if I was playing Iron Maiden songs I would feel like that's extremely revealing about me. No, no I don't know I guess they just turn out that way, I guess they just sound personal, I don't know. I mean, of course, they do. Makeup a song it's gonna sound like how you feel, whether you wanna shout at the devil or whatever you wanna do you know?" This is one confirmation that Elliot's songs are quite personal as it's just the writing process. A little bit more into the interview the video cuts and Smiths says "Playing things too safe is the most popular way to fail...dying is another way...um...or like killing your emotions is another popular way with you know drugs or alcohol or whatever but yeah, I don't know those would be types of ways." The interviewer asks "Are you succeeding then?" Smith responds, "Um, no. Not right now, but I think I might you know, I know, yeah, I might" He twists his head to the right and left as if to say he might or might not, and the video cuts. It's obvious he was struggling and when I quit writing last night I put on some music to see if I could catch anything any sign or struggle that was so severe it's surprising nobody saw this coming (or at least they didn't step in if they did know) and thankfully I did, Say Yes a song from the 1997 Either/Or album Elliott sings "She'll decide what she wants I'll probably be the last to know No one says until it shows See how it is They want you or they don't Say yes." I think that Smith was directly talking about d3ppr3ss!on and su!c!d3 here. I think we can take all of this
MUSIC TALK
TRIGGER WARNING !!!!!
Elliott Smith was born in 1969 and when he was only 6 months old his parents divorced and Elliott lived with his mother, after the divorce his mother developed a relationship with another, unfortunately, this man would go on later to (allegedly) s3xu@lly abuse Elliott. “I didn’t sleep at all for about the first six months I lived there,” he told Under the Radar. “I was very worried about my mother.” In another interview, he elaborated: “I couldn’t stay in the same house as my stepfather.” When Smith was 14 he moved to his dad's house in Portland to escape his stepfather Tony and while there got more into music, later on, he would form a small portland based band with three other men called Heatmiser. The band lasted 5 years releasing 4 albums, Mic City Sons - 1996, Cop and Speeder - 1994, Yellow No. 5 - 1994 ep and, Dead Air - 1993. The band split up due to Smith wanting to follow his own path during the recordings of Mic City Sons, their last album, he said he "found the band dissolving." After the breakup, Smith released his third album Either/Or -1997 which is put as one of the "saddest albums" along with Nick Drakes Pink Moon-1972 and Nirvanas In Uetro-1993. Elliott had openly been experimenting with alcohol and softer harmless drugs in his teen years but in this album, we watch his roller coaster of life fall more rapidly until his last and unfinished album in 2004 when he st@Bb3d himself in the chest twice after a fight with his girlfriend Jennifer Chiba. In his earlier album Mic City Sons you can hear the lyrics "I only really needed alcohol Something that'd treat me okay And wouldn't say the things you'd say" (Plain Clothes Man) The roller Coaster that was Elliott Smiths life tips and we begin our decline because just a year later in his album 'Elliot Smith' but you can hear him decline at a fast pase during his 'Either/Or album, the song has a good high and a nice feel until it sinks into 2:45 a cold and bitter song that slowly creeps up to it's broken only at the end when the drums come in and fade away, you can also hear Smith struggling with his addiction in this song when he says, "It's 2:45 in the morning And I'm putting myself on warning For waking up in an unknown place With a recollection you've half erased" while Elliott doesn't directly talk about drinkingit's it's common knowledge he was a heavy drinker and drinking like that can make you forget things big to small such as trauma or not remembering much from the night before when you wake up. In another song from the Either/ or album, Smiths says, "Drink up, baby, stay up all night With the things you could do, you won't but you might The potential you'll bet that you'll never see The promises you'll only make Drink up with me now and forget all about The pressure of days, do what I say" ... "Drink up, baby, look at the stars I'll kiss you again, between the bars Where I'm seeing you there, with your hands in the air Waiting to finally be caught Drink up one more time and I'll make you mine Keep you apart, deep in my heart" This song ( Between the Bars) is obviously about Elliott's addiction and maybe a glimpse into what he's trying to run from. After Smith put out this album he got rocketed into somewhat of a spotlight after director Gus Van Sant contacted Smith for the use of his songs and a couple of new pieces he was working on such as Miss Misery. His song 'Miss Misery' would be was nominated for Original Song but unfortunately 'My Heart Will Go On' won.
Pls- i'm making a new background n ill learn how to add pics supa soon :")
