Let me take you back to the 2000's. When AOL and Yahoo! ruled the web. When the most exciting technological advancement was Snake II. When the closest thing we had to GPS was printed out MapQuest PDFs. This is where my show is set. In these much simpler times, anything was possible. Even the US forcing foreign orphans to immigrate to be a good example to others seemed plausible. Let me remind you, the phrases "Radical, bro" "I'll download the song from Napster" and "Don't have a cow" were commonly used.

Now, on the topic of the immigration program... everyone hates it. Republicans hate it because they think it encourages immigration. Liberals hate it because it implies there's a "perfect" immigrant. The only ones who like it are the Libertarians, and THAT'S just because they think the orphans had a choice in the matter, which they do not.

This show follows the generation that grew up with Nickelodeon Slime. The generation that read MAD when it was coloured and not bankrupt. The generation that voted for Pedro. Of course, this was only really the case in the U.S.

In Northern Ireland, where all the main characters from, it is quite a different story. It was still five years away from the IRA completely disarming. The Troubles were over, sure, however the nation, and our characters, are still recovering. Conrad and Douglas both lost their parents in political attacks. Tim and Adam both come from harmful sectarian backgrounds. These plotlines MUST be treated with the highest of respect towards the real life victims of the Troubles.

The show is also set in Orlando, Florida. In fact, the main characters live inside a Disney hotel. "It was this or pay taxes,", a mid-level manager explains. Living in a hotel, being surrounded by tourists, worse, being surrounded by Disney World, WORSE, being surrounded by Floridians - Well, to the cynical European teenagers, that just sounds like the worst time. But, they slowly start to stop grumbling, and even enjoy themselves.

The Christmas episodes are, of course, set inside the park.

It would be a bit hypocritical for the government to let the orphans attend private school. So, welcome to American public school system. It's the worst. America is ranked 36th worldwide in education. Inside that, Florida, is ranked 42nd out of 50. American public schools, also tend to favor white and asian males for graduation rates. That is why, out of the 1.3 million held behind every year, the majority are black and hispanic. 14% of teachers resign by the first year, 50% resign after five years. And don't even get me started on “No Child Left Behind”. This school is not "High School Musical", it's "High School".
