Why Do Worms Exist?

Hi, so one day I was talking to someone and she randomly took a photo of me and made a meme out of me, with the caption, "why do worms exist?"
Of course I found it amusing and moments after snatched her phone to delete the picture, but it got me wondering:
Why do worms exist?
No, really, think about it.
They're slimy, they have five hearts, they squiggle around on the pavement after it rains, they make natural fertilizer for our crops, bait for fish and nice food for birds.
So is that why worms exist?
To be food? To be a living thing for one moment and digested in the next?
What a cruel world for worms.
Those poor worms.
I'm going to start a petition to save the worms from a doomed life, and let them roam freely and happily in a compost bin with rotting apples and fresh leaves.
Here's a good question of the day: if you could be a worm, what type would you be?
I would want to be a gummy worm.
Because I'm super sweet and colourful.
Like a gummy worm.
Now I want gummy worms.
I'm hungry.
I wonder what worms think of the worm dance move.
Are they offended that humans are impersonating them? Do they think they can dance the worm better than humans?
Are humans even able to communicate with worms? Are they able to explain all of the questions humans have about worms and defend the stereotype about worms being gross creatures? And, how would they think of us? If we could finally communicate with worms, would they greet us with kindness for giving them rotting banana peels to eat or would they start a riot after 6 year old Kenny killed an entire worm colony with his magnifying glass on a sunny summer day?
And how would they feel about that 2006 movie "How To Eat Fried Worms" that we were all shown in third grade? Probably horrified. Throughout the movie they find worse and worse ways to mutilate and eat worms. I myself as a human feel for the worms. I hope they can forgive us for it.
I guess we'll never know...
Oh to be a worm...
Are there any songs about worms? Because if so I'd love to hear them.
I guess that's why worms exist.
To get me to procrastinate from doing my work.
