Separating art from the artist?

I'm curious what others think when it comes to this topic! :)

Some of you might be aware, but a couple former scene artists have slowly been getting cancelled ever since the beginning of 2020. They are D@hvie V@nity from BOTDF and Jeffree Star. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to share the details on here, but if you're unaware, there are plenty of YouTube videos that go great lengths about it.

I used to be a very big scene kid (still might consider myself a low-key one), but I like the music that these people have created. Is it wrong to do this, or can you appreciate the music while not liking the people? (I know Jeffree has not made music in almost a decade, but I still wonder.) (o_O)

All opinions are accepted! (^-^)

You can enjoy someone's work without supporting the person who makes it. That's totally fine.
Just be clear in that you don't support the creator of that work.

Hope that makes sense.

If the person is bigoted than the music is bigoted. I don't want to support racists and pedophiles to fill their already big pocket. It took me a long time to understand this. You have to think to yourself, why are you attracted to these artists? Usually after I think on that a bit, it makes me sick that I listened to them in the first place.

Its good to separate art from the artist (Richard Wagner is a great musician even thoug he hated jews), it shows that you have a strong character. Especially nowadays cancelculture is becoming a trend and its very dangerous. No one is gonna change his view if they get cancelled they just tend to get more extreme in their opinions and society gets more and more divided. You have to respect other peoples opinions even if you oppose them. We as a society need to communicate to find solutions but banning and

Nothing wrong about it. Just listen to the music you enjoy, people tend to overthink :)

well, I don't know what those people did, but it really just depends on person to person, some will say it's ok, others won't. The famous rapper 6ix 9ine had sex with a 13 year old, so is it bad to like his music? Hitler has beautiful artwork, is it bad to respect that? I really wish I had an answer too
